Vehicle Extrication

During the second weekend every March, CARS hosts VEHEXT. This 3-day class teaches students basic and advanced vehicle rescue techniques. Students spend the first day learning about vehicle anatomy, a systematic approach vehicle rescue, winch operations, and much more. Days 2 and 3 are hands-on training spent at a local junkyard learning how to use various extrication tools and working through various extrication scenarios. Day 3 culminates with the Colossal Crash, where students’ knowledge is put to the test in a complex scenario. VEHEXT 2024 will be held March 8-10, 2024.

Heavy Truck Rescue

CARS also hosts Heavy Truck Rescue every Fall. This class covers advanced extrication techniques and methods for lifting and stabilizing heavy vehicles. The course is taught in keeping with the appropriate current standards for such training and includes didactic and practical components with an emphasis on safety, planning, and tool operations. Topics for this class include stabilization of and extrication from vehicles such as tractor-trailers. cement mixers, and buses.
